How can I know more about learning a language through this Programme?
The Online Language Learning Licenses Programme includes an introduction to the partner providers, the course types, structure, methodology and further information.
How can I obtain a license to study a language course online?
Participants should contact their learning manager/training focal point to let them know they are interested in enjoying a language license (specify the language you are interested in). The learning manager will work with the Language and Communications Training Unit. Contact e-mail: dos-cdots-lctu@un.org
When can I request a language learning license?
We open registration every 6 months, typically by March-April and September-October. Local learning managers/training focal points will make participants aware of this training opportunity and how to apply.
Do I need to take a placement test once I receive my language learning license?
Participants must take a placement test for English, French and Spanish. The test will be arranged by the license provider. No placement test is necessary for Chinese and Arabic licenses.
Can I sign up for any level once I am granted a language learning license?
The English, French and Spanish license provider will assign the license recipients a course/level based on their placement test results. Since there is no placement test for Arabic and Chinese, the course can be chosen freely.
What is the duration of the language learning license courses?
Arabic, Chinese and English licenses are for one year (12 months). French and Spanish are for half a year (six months). To continue learning the language beyond that, another language learning license must be requested and granted.
Will I obtain a certificate after completing the online language course?
Certificates of completion are given for Arabic, English, French and Spanish courses. No certificate is offered for Chinese.
Can I request an extension to finish my online language course after the license expires?
Under compelling circumstances (e.g., sick leave, family emergency, etc.) an extension might be considered. Those encountering any of these circumstances may contact their learning manager and dos-cdots-lctu@un.org at least one week before the end of their course. No extensions can be granted if the request is made once the license has expired.
Can I apply for a new license if I did not finish my course while my previous license was valid?
Participants may contact the learning manager/training focal point to discuss available options.
