Online Language Learning

In a world more interconnected than ever, online resources and e-learning opportunities have become our allies to develop, maintain and enhance how we communicate in various languages.

The Language and Communications Training Unit (LCTU) of the Capacity Development and Operational Training Service (CDOTS) manages a series of resources and opportunities for online language learning, including curated resources, short online self-study courses and a language learning programme for staff in remote duty stations.

Learning languages nurtures abilities and skills in communication; promotes professional growth; is essential for mobility and adaptability; and provides staff members with the experience in listening to and learning from others.

Self-study - for Secretariat Staff and Eligible Participants in LCTU Courses

A growing series of short, online self-study courses in the six official languages allows for a flexible approach to learning languages and developing communication skills.

The series addresses various topics at different levels, from learning how to greet in a new language to developing the writing skills required at the United Nations or understanding why and how to use non-discriminatory and gender-inclusive language.

Online Licenses Programme - for UN Learning Managers and Their Teams

To expand the geographical reach of language learning across the Organization and to serve those in remote duty stations, we offer a fully developed programme, the Online Language Learning Licenses Programme.
