To illustrate the oral and written skills expected at the language levels UN I-Basic Level, UN II- Intermediate Level and UN III- Advanced Level, the CDOTS Language and Communications Training Unit has developed a set of video, audio, and text samples. These materials showcase professional communications in scenarios where new language users interact with proficient speakers and writers.
The samples serve two key purposes: helping staff self-assess their language abilities and encouraging communication in a shared language by demonstrating that everyone, regardless of their level, can engage with others in a variety of contexts and for different purposes.
In short, the UNLF samples bring forth the obvious: there is no need to be an advanced -- or expert -- language user to seize opportunities to work and live in international contexts.
Examples of Oral and Written Languages
