Summer Immersion Programme

The CDOTS Language and Communications Training Unit oversees the administration of the Chinese Summer Immersion Programme, a venture sponsored by the Chinese government. This programme offers a concentrated three-week summer study and culture immersion opportunity at Nanjing University in China.

This brief, intensive programme presents the ideal chance for students looking to enhance their Chinese language skills, explore the wonders of China, and experience Chinese culture firsthand.

The application period typically commences in early February and concludes in late March. The programme usually runs in July. Classes are held Monday to Friday, for four hours per day and a total of 20 hours per week.

Course fees and accommodation expenses are generously covered by the Chinese Government; participants are responsible for their international travel costs. Secretariat staff members may qualify for special leave with pay, subject to supervisor approval.

Eligible applicants include:

  • All language learners enrolled in officially-recognized Chinese courses, whether at UN Headquarters or in Offices Away from Headquarters.
  • Applicants who have successfully completed at least Chinese 2-UN I or equivalent courses (60 hours of formal learning).

Priority will be given to staff members, particularly those who have never participated in the programme.
